3. SOCIETY PROFILE

Acoustical Society of Yugoslavia (ASY) was founded in 1972, and was the first formal professional organization of acoustical engineers and scientists in the country. At the time, Yugoslavia (SFR of Yugoslavia, as it was then known) was a federation of six states that are now all independent and have their own acoustical societies, some of which are currently members of EAA. In fact, ASY currently operates in the country with roughly half the population it had before the breakup of former Yugoslavia.

Since it has been established, ASY organizes annual conferences at which members present their scientific and technical papers. Throughout its long history, ASY has also organized several international conferences, as FASE meeting in Dubrovnik in 1979, and the XIII ICA congress in Belgrade in 1989.

ASY membership varied between 40 and 60 through the society history. Last updated list of members (at the beginning of the 2006) has 76 names. The main office is at Belgrade University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade.
