3. SOCIETY PROFILE

The German Acoustical Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Akustik, DEGA) was founded in 1989. Since then it enjoyed a steady growth. Presently there are more than 1100 personal members (individuals) and more than 44 sustaining members (companies).

DEGA is the main organiser of the Annual German Conferences on Acoustics, called "DAGA". The 33th DAGA takes place in Stuttgart.
A typical DAGA conference lasts three to four days and comprises about 900 delegates, 30 exhibitors and 400 contributions in up to ten parallel sessions. Traditionally, the DAGA is perceived as a highlight of acoustics in Germany every year.

The DEGA members are active in 10 technical committees, labelled as follows: Building and Room Acoustics, Electro-Acoustics, Vehicle Acoustics, Auditory Acoustics, Education in Acoustics, Musical Acoustics, Physical Acoustics, Acoustics of Speech, Noise (Effects and Protection), and Ultrasound. These technical committees organise specialised meetings on topics in their field on a regular basis.

All DEGA members receive the European archival journal ACTA ACUSTICA / ACUSTICA and the European newsletter NUNTIUS ACUSTICUS (6 CDs/year), plus the German newsletter "Sprachrohr" – all included in the membership fee.
